OMM-SOTA ORCHESTRA CAMP

Jointly organised by OMM and School of the Arts (SOTA), the Orchestra Camp aims to provide a platform for like-minded young musicians to come together in a week of music-making. The camp began in 2011 as the OMM-SOTA Combined Schools String Camp, and has since become an annual intensive orchestra training programme in which young musicians explore symphonic repertoire with guidance from professional orchestral performers and OMM principal players. Campers also participate in activities including games, repertoire reading sessions and music workshops, and also give back to the community by sharing their musical experiences with others.

Since its inception, the camp has provided over 130 young musicians from 31 schools and institutions a chance to rehearse and perform in a symphony orchestra. The camp is planned and run by SOTA student leaders who receive guidance in leadership and management skills from the OMM committee.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. When is this year’s camp and where will it take place?

The camp will take place from 5th December to 14th December 2019. All activities will be held at the School of the Arts (SOTA). More details here.

2. Is there an audition?

Yes. Auditions will be held from 12th to 14th September 2019.

3. What do I need to prepare for the audition?

You will need to prepare the following :

  1. One solo work of your own choosing (recommended length: 5 min)

  2. Orchestral excerpts for your instrument (excerpts will be released closer to the audition dates; do keep a lookout on your email & our social media platforms!)

  3. There will also be a short interview with the panel to get to know you better.

Yes, but you will have to audition for each instrument that you sign up for.

8. Do I have to pay a fee for the camp?

A cash deposit of $20 will be required for this camp. Participants are expected to be present for all activities of the camp, unless they have informed the camp committee of their absence before 28th November 2019 . To reflect the value of the camp resources, $5 will be deducted from the cash deposit of $20 for every unaccounted absence, except for extenuating circumstances such as illness or family matters. Such cases will be managed on a case-by-case basis and any changes to attendance should be made known to the camp committee at the earliest possible date. The cash deposit will be collected at the start of the camp and returned at the end of the camp.

9. Can I still sign up if I cannot make it for some of the dates?
